On Saturday, August 10, 2024, the Katsina State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) conducted elections to select party leaders across the 34 local government areas of the state.

Two weeks prior, on July 27, 2024, the state PDP also held elections to choose leaders at the ward level in all the local governments across Katsina State.

However, in both elections, members of the faction led by the former Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa, were excluded. Only candidates loyal to Senator Yakubu Lado Danmarke, who was the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 elections, participated in the elections, and they emerged victorious.

According to a report obtained by Katsina Daily News, Dr. Mustapha Inuwa's faction claims to have taken legal action due to their exclusion from the election process, which they argue violates the party's rules.

Speaking to the press on Saturday, Arc Ahmed Aminu Yar’Adua, a member of Dr. Mustapha Inuwa’s faction and former running mate to Lado in the previous gubernatorial election, alleged that the state party leadership refused to sell nomination forms to their supporters. He stated, "The state PDP office collected over N97 million from us for more than 7,000 eligible members, but they were denied the opportunity to purchase the forms needed to participate in the election."

He further mentioned that they had reached out to the PDP national headquarters in Abuja to report the situation, but no action was taken. As a result, they filed a lawsuit, and the case is currently before the court, with a ruling expected on the upcoming Monday.

On the other hand, the Katsina State PDP leadership has denied all the allegations. The acting Deputy Chairman of the Katsina PDP, Tijjani Umar, stated that the party has not received any court injunction preventing them from conducting the elections.
